To provide in-depth knowledge in the specific modality of Medical Technology and prepare the students for leadership roles in hospitals/ diagnostic labs/ research centers/ healthcare industry and provide professional growth to the students in the following specializations:

ELIGIBILITY

Cardiac Care

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Cardiac Technology as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Life Sciences from a recognized University or equivalent and diploma / certificate program in Cardiac Technology /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Cardiology from a reputed institute / related field.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Physiotherapy / Nursing from a recognized University or equivalent.

Respiratory Therapy

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Respiratory Therapy as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Life Sciences from a recognized University or equivalent and diploma/ certificate program in Respiratory Therapy / Technology /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Respiratory Care from a reputed institute / related field.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Physiotherapy / Nursing from a recognized University or equivalent.

Imaging Sciences

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Imaging Sciences as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Physics or Life Sciences as major or equivalent from recognized university with diploma/ certificate program in Imaging Sciences /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Radiology from a reputed institute / related field.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani from a recognized University or equivalent.

Clinical Laboratory

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Clinical Laboratory Technology as specialization / Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • OR
  • Bachelors in Life Sciences or equivalent from recognized university with diploma / certificate program in Clinical Laboratory /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Clinical laboratory from a reputed institute / related field.
  • OR

Dialysis & Renal Technology

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Dialysis as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university.

  • Bachelors in Life Sciences or equivalent from recognized university with diploma/ certificate program in Dialysis/Renal Technology / minimum one year of work experience in the department of Dialysis / Renal Sciences from a reputed institute / related field.

OT & Anaesthesia Technology

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Marks in the qualifying examination followed by Personal Interview & Written Ability Test (PIWAT).

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION:

The medium of instruction for all the courses shall be English.

ASSESSMENT

The evaluation will have both internal & external components. The internal component will be continuous throughout the semester & external component will be conducted by the University at the end of the semester. A student would be required to pass in each head (internal and external) independently. Students would be assessed according to the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) system. Students would be awarded the Grade Point Average where grades would be awarded based on the class average. A student would be required to perform consistently well.

The M.Sc. Medical Technology programme will have a total of 100 credits in 2 years. Each credit is defined as 15 hours of teaching (Lecture or Lecture demonstration) or 30 hours of supervised practicals. Each credit is assessed for 50 Marks. For all external courses internal assessment will be of 60% and external assessment will be of 40%. Practicals will be 100% external. Internal courses will be evaluated 100% internally by the institute.

STANDARD OF PASSING

The assessment of the student for each examination is done, based on relative performance. Maximum Grade Point (GP) is 10 corresponding to O (Outstanding). For all courses, a student is required to pass both internal and external examination separately with a minimum Grade Point of 4 corresponding to Grade P. Students securing less than 40% absolute marks in each head of passing will be declared FAIL. The University awards a degree to the student who has achieved a minimum CGPA of 4 out of maximum of 10 CGPA for the program.

SPECIALIZATIONS

The M.Sc. Medical Technology program combines on campus classroom instructions and Lecture, Lecture demonstrations & exhaustive Practical Training in the tertiary care hospitals under the mentorship of the respective guides. Students can opt for any one of the following specializations from the first semester:

The Cardiac Care Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, haemo-dynamic monitoring, equipment set up and operation. They assist the physician during cardiac procedures and assume responsibility for completion of other cardiac lab functions.

The Respiratory Therapist is a key member of the medical team, specializing in diagnostics, treatments and procedures in the care of patients with respiratory problems. They evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.

Imaging Sciences Technologists are health professionals who facilitate diagnosis and management through the creation of images using medical imaging modalities like X-ray, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography.

Clinical Laboratory Technologists are responsible for laboratory based tasks, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording & analyzing results in biological, chemical, physical & life sciences. These tests assist in the advancement & development of modern medicine & science.

Dialysis Technologists operate machines that remove waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer carry out those functions satisfactorily. The programme is designed to provide competencies & technical skills necessary in the field of dialysis.

The Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, equipment set up, Pre, Intra & Post operative procedures.

AWARD OF DEGREE

HOW TO APPLY

STEP I: Registration to SIHS: Application form will be provided along with prospectus. Fill the application form & submit it along with requisite documents to SIHS. The registration fees for SIHS is Rs. 1000/- by cash OR demand draft only. DD to be drawn in favor of Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) payable at Pune.

STEP II: You will be called for Personal Interview & Written Ability Test (PIWAT)​
STEP III: Admission process will be completed after verification of all the submitted documents

  • In addition to the above, candidates selected under the reservation category i.e. Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST)/ Kashmiri Migrants admission will be confirmed after scrutiny of the original supporting documents.
